South Mountain Women’s Basketball had their season opener Saturday night as they hosted Dine College looking to snap a 53 game losing streak over the past two and a half seasons.
The Cougars were defeated in both games this past week, against Scottsdale CC and Glendale CC. However, South Mountain had the best showing of their season so far in a 7-point loss to the current #2 seed in Division 2 (SCC). The Cougars are led in scoring by sophomore Akayla Taylor’s 7.
Women’s Basketball will host the Division 2 leader, Pima CC, in our gymnasium on Wednesday, January 13th, at 5:30pm. Sophomore Akayla Taylor leads the team in scoring with 7.6 points per game and rebounding with 3.8 rebounds per game.
On Saturday, South Mountain was defeated by Tohono O’odham CC by the score of 71-40. Sophomore Akayla Taylor led the Cougars with 19 points in the game. On Sunday, the Cougars hosted Central Wyoming and fell by the score of 62-38.
All student athletes must have a physical on file before participating in formal practice (weights & conditioning, practice, and scrimmages). This includes all student athletes that will be joining the team in the following year, or a person trying out for the team.
