Women’s Soccer hosted Gateway on Tuesday afternoon still looking for that first win on the year after losing a tight match to Cochise over the past weekend 3-2.
The match would be back and forth the whole first half with neither team finding the back of the net and the two teams went into the half all square at 0. South Mountain broke the scoreless game early into the second half when a Gateway hand ball in the box prompted a penalty kick. Sophomore Sara Anbardan stepped up to take the kick and drilled it in the bottom right corner of the net to put the Cougars up 1-0. South Mountain would hold the lead into a water break with 22 minutes left but could not hold the lead after that and gave up two quick goals to go down 2-1. Gateway would add a goal late and that would be the final as South Mountain fell to Gateway 3-1.
The Cougars drop to (0-17) on the year, with three games remaining on the season. South Mountain travels to take on Mesa Thursday night at 7pm.
