Cougar Volleyball Team Earns AVCA Academic Award
The 2018-19 South Mountain Community College volleyball program – finishers as a top 5 team in the nation after their amazing run to the National Championships – have earned one more incredible accolade, but this time for their work in the classroom, and not on the court.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association released their Academic Awards for teams that carried a cumulative 3.30 GPA or better. The SMCC Cougars were one of just 21 community college programs nationwide to earn the honor, and finished as a Top 5 program in that category as well, as the only two-year program to be added to the AVCA Honor Roll.
This is the second consecutive year that the program as earned the AVCA Academic Award. Additionally, the Cougars also reached their Dig Pink fundraising goals, in support of breast cancer research.
The Cougars finished their record setting year with a record of 25-8, their highest win total, and the team’s first trip to nationals in more than 20 years.
