Danelle Dykstra-Wade is beginning her eighth year as Head Athletic Trainer at South Mountain Community College. She also serves as adjunct faculty, teaching Exercise and Health Education classes. Danelle manages more than 150 athletes in nine sports at SMCC. She has been an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for athletics, training students from Grand Canyon University for six years.
In June 2008, Danelle presented at the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) annual meeting in St Louis, MO. The presentation was entitled “The Relationship between Pitching, Injury and Pain History, and Health-Related Quality of Life in High School and College Female Softball Pitchers.” Danelle continues to study and collect data in this area while at SMCC. The study was published in Journal of Sport Rehabilitation in 2011. While an undergraduate at Central College, Danelle presented on “Impact and Evaluation of Concussions” in March 2005 at the Mid-America Athletic Trainers' Association meeting. Danelle has also served on the Arizona Athletic Trainers Association Board (2011-2013) as the college and university representative.
In seven previous years at SMCC, Danelle has been an integral part in ten regional team Championships and three national team championships. She is also the Assistant Athletic Director for SMCC and serves on several ACCAC committees. Danelle monitors the Strength and Conditioning programs for all SMCC Athletic teams.
Danelle is a native of Pleasantville, Iowa. She graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 2005 with a degree in Athletic Training. She received her Master’s Degree in 2008 in Athletic Training from AT Still University, Arizona School of Health Sciences. She currently resides in Chandler with her husband Rick and son Ethan.
