Welcome! We’re excited to have you as a South Mountain Community College student!

Getting an early start on your college education can pay off later on, and we’re here to help you get that early start. Studies show that students experience greater academic success in college when they complete dual enrollment courses in high school.

When you take dual enrollment classes, you’ll be earning high school and college credits at the same time. Plus, you’ll gain the experience of being a college student. South Mountain Community College partners with Valley high schools to offer dual enrollment credit for academic and occupational classes. The courses are taught on high school campuses by college-approved high school teachers and can be counted toward high school graduation requirements.

Registration Steps for Dual Enrollment

First-Time Students or Returning Students Adding a College

Step 1 Apply for Admissions

  1. Create your student account.
  2. Select South Mountain Community College as your primary college of interest.
  3. When you finish your application, you will receive (please copy or take a picture of your information):
    • MEID and password (example: ABC1234567)
    • Student ID number (example: 33333333)
    • Maricopa email (example: ABC1234567@maricopa.edu)

Step 2: Complete the Dual Enrollment Next Steps Form (Deadline: Sep 8, 2023)

  1. Select South Mountain Community College as the primary college where you plan to register.
  2. Determine college readiness and course placement: https://www.maricopa.edu/students/assessment-placement/edready
  3. Refer to your school’s course list

Step 3 Set up Duo Two-Factor Authentication  (If DUO Two-Factor is already set up go to step 3)

Duo is Maricopa Community Colleges’ two-factor authentication service, providing an extra layer of security to protect against hackers, cyber threats, and any unauthorized access to sensitive data.

  1. Download the Duo Mobile app from Apple or Google Play store.
  2. Follow the Duo Mobile set-up instructions. Your student email account (MEID@maricopa.edu) is required.
  3. Add your phone number.
  4. Choose your device:
    • iPhone or Android Smartphone (more secure and recommended option)
    • iPad or Tablet (next best option)
    • Traditional cell phone
    • Landline
  5. Log in to a Maricopa Community Colleges system.
  6. Start using Duo two-factor authentication when prompted through your device choice.

Step 4

You will receive an email from Dual Enrollment once you have been registered for your class(es). The email will also contain information regarding payment.
Please check your Maricopa email regularly.

Step 5 How to Pay Tuition and Fees  (Deadline: Sep 20, 2023)

To pay online:

  1. You can pay tuition, or sign up for the payment plan using Student Tools and click on View Charges or Make a Payment.
  2. Click Select View Payment Options.

If you change schools or are no longer in the class that is offering Dual Enrollment please notify dual.enrollment@southmountaincc.edu ASAP to avoid being charged tuition.

First-Time Students or Returning Students Adding a College

Returning Students (Has taken Dual or ACE classes at SMCC and have an MEID)

Step 1: Complete the Dual Enrollment Returning Students  Deadline: September 8, 2023

  1. Select South Mountain Community College as the primary college where you plan to register.
  2. Determine college readiness and course placement: https://www.maricopa.edu/students/assessment-placement/edready
  3. Refer to your school’s Dual Enrollment Course List

Please allow 7-10 business days (Monday-Friday) to verify and review the Dual Enrollment Next Steps.

Step 2

You will receive an email from Dual Enrollment once you have been registered for your class(es). The email will also contain information regarding payment. Please check your Maricopa email regularly.

To pay online:

FAQ

Tuition for in-state residents at the Maricopa Community College is $97 per credit hour plus a $15 registration fee per semester, per college.

Phoenix Union High School District pays a portion of the tuition for in-state students, allowing dual enrollment to be more accessible and affordable for students.

NOTE: In-county tuition is subject to change: a $15 registration fee is required.

South Mountain dual enrollment credits transfer to all Arizona public colleges and universities. Most out-of-state colleges and universities accept dual enrollment. Students transferring out of state are encouraged to check with the post-secondary institution for transferability before enrolling. Students can request transcripts be sent to their college/university by following the steps here:

Dual enrollment and advanced placement courses are good options for students. The difference is that dual enrollment students receive a grade and credit for the work performed throughout the year. These credits usually transfer to the student's college of choice as direct course equivalents.

Advanced placement classes require students to pass the Advanced Placement (AP) test to earn college credit. Credit is awarded solely on a student's performance on this single exam. Credit is based on the score students achieve on the AP exam.

Dual enrollment classes meet at the high school during the regular high school day and are taught by college-certified high school instructors using a college curriculum and text. The high school agrees to accept these college courses toward a student's high school completion.

Concurrent enrollment classes meet at a college site or online and are not affiliated with the high school. Students interested in concurrent enrollment must submit a special admission form. Students need prior approval from their high school counselor or administration if they want these college courses to help satisfy high school requirements.
