The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Foundations of Early Childhood Education is designed to prepare students with foundational knowledge regarding the growth and development of the young child. Topics include children's health, physical milestones, and cognitive development. Also covered are communication and language acquisition as well as adult/child relationship building.
This pathway map will help you gain the expertise needed to:
- Plan a safe, healthy learning environment including a prevention and emergency plan and identifying state regulations related to various early childhood settings.
- Describe and explain the relationship of play to physical and intellectual development at the early childhood level.
- Develop an early childhood curriculum that advances physical and intellectual development through art, music, literature, science, math, and language.
- Describe and explain the relationship of play to children`s social and emotional development at the early childhood level.
- Design a learning environment which encourages the social and emotional development of young children.
- Provide guidance and discipline which promote the social and emotional development of young children.
- Use effective methods to establish productive relationships with families.
- Develop strategies to manage an operationally effective program in various early childhood care settings.
- Apply theoretical concepts to firsthand experiences in early childhood settings.
- Define professionalization as it applies to the field of early care and education, birth to age eight, and develop a plan for professional growth and development.
- Observe and record the developmental stages of children from conception through the eighth year.
- Describe principles of children`s growth and development from conception through the eighth year.
Successful completion of this program may lead to employment in a variety of different occupations and industries. Preschool Teachers, Except Special Education
The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:
- The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
- Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
- Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include CPD150, CPD150AC, CPD104, and AAA115/CPD115. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
- Students should meet with an academic advisor about any concerns that may affect course enrollment.
Full-time status is 12 credits to 18 credits per semester.
