Academic Advising Appointments

Book an Appointment Online with an Advisor

The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has organized degree and certificate options into nine (9) Fields of Interest (FOI) to help you clarify your career path and connect to your learning community.

  • Please schedule your Academic Advising appointment with the advisor assigned to your Field of Interest (FOI)

 

To ensure that your advisor can help you enroll in your courses, please complete the following activities prior to scheduling your appointment:

 

New to College students (including all recent high school graduates) 

Step 1: Get Admitted: Please complete a Student Admissions Application for the semester that you intend to enroll at South Mountain Community College

Step 2: Determine Placement: Please provide SMCC with a measure to determine your course placement in English, reading comprehension, and mathematics

Step 3: Participate in New Student Orientation: New Students please complete this online form to prepare for New Student Orientation and your initial academic advising session by Field of Interest (FOI)

 

Transfer students with prior college experience

Step 1: Get Admitted: Please complete a Student Admissions Application for the semester that you intend to enroll at South Mountain Community College

Step 2: Determine Placement: If you did not complete English, Reading, or Math coursework at your previous college or university, please provide SMCC with a measure to determine your course placement in English, reading comprehension, and mathematics

Step 3 Transcript Evaluation: SMCC Enrollment Services is happy to evaluate your college transcripts for applicable transfer credit.

  • Please complete a Student Admissions Application for South Mountain Community College (Step 1), next

  • Request that your official transcripts and/or scores be mailed directly to South Mountain Community College (ATT: Enrollment Services), 7050 S. 24th Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85042  from the issuing college or university

  • You will be notified via email once your official transcripts have been received at SMCC

  • Email admissions@southmountaincc.edu to request the transcript evaluation

  • Evaluations for transfer credit are typically completed within 2-4 weeks following the request

  • Please have unofficial transcripts available for your Field of Interest (FOI) Academic Advisor to review during your appointment

 

Prerequisite Verification Request 

Individuals who have successfully completed courses at other U.S. regionally accredited universities and colleges who would like to enroll in a South Mountain Community College class which requires a prerequisite must request an evaluation of these courses.

  • Unofficial transcripts are ACCEPTABLE for verification purposes

    • Students will be required to provide official transcripts when applying to a program and/or when applying for graduation

  • Transcripts must show original class 

  • Transfer credits cannot be used

Please email advise@southmountaincc.edu with the following information:

  1. The Class (e.g. ENG101)

  2. The Five-digit Class Number

  3. The Class Start Date

  4. A copy of your transcripts

  5. Your Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID)

 

PLEASE NOTE: Upon completion of the prerequisite approval you will be enrolled and notified. Typically requests are processed within two to three business days.
