Academic Probation Appeal Process

Academic Probation Appeal Process

What is Academic Probation?

If you have received a notification of Academic Probation in your Message Center, your enrollment for the next semester may be limited to 12 credit hours. If you wish to enroll or remain enrolled in more than 12 credits, you will need to submit an appeal form to the Academic Standards Committee.

Per the administrative guidelines, a student will be placed on academic probation if, after completion of twelve (12) or more credit hours, the student’s cumulative grade point average is less than 2.0.
Students on academic probation may take no more than twelve (12) credit hours per semester unless approved by the Admissions and Standards Committee.

Continued Probation

If you have received a notification of Academic Continued Probation in your Message Center, your enrollment for the next semester may be limited to 6 credit hours. If you wish to enroll or remain enrolled in more than 6 credits, you will need to submit an appeal form to the Academic Standards Committee.

A student on academic probation who fails to raise the cumulative grade point average 2.0 will be placed on continued probation and may be limited to taking six (6) credit hours. Academic probation and continued probation are calculated at the conclusion of every term including summer.

Note: The Appeal Form must be submitted to the South Mountain Community College Admissions, Registration, and Records office by the specified deadline; call 602-243-8123 for specific dates.
