The South Mountain Community College Guadalupe Center hosted an Open House on June 12 to give students a closer look at the campus as they took tours of the Center, explored partnerships and learned more about the programs offered.
This event also served as a celebration for the first anniversary of The Hive by Institute for Digital Inclusion Acceleration (IDIA). The Guadalupe Center is home to one of several Hive locations, which was established to provide access to technology and digital services for all ages and skill levels.
Since last year, The Hive has served over 650 Guadalupe community members and SMCC students with free access to technology, digital skills, digital navigator support, technical support and telehealth support. Students can immerse themselves into the digital world even further at The Hive with workshops, classes and camps that cover topics such as 3D printing, coding, video production and editing, stop motion animation and audio, robotics and much more.
Additionally, the Guadalupe Center announced it is expanding its offerings with the introduction of two new workforce programs in collaboration with Maricopa Corporate College (MCOR) and Arizona@Work. Students can enroll in the Electronic Health Records Management (EHRM) program, a 12-week course that pr vides the essential education and training to prepare those interested in becoming a medical records specialist. There is also a new Medical Billing and Coding program that equips students with competitive skills and prepares them for an ever-changing industry in less than three months. Both programs are free for eligible participants.
