University Transfer
To “Transfer” means that you move from one college or university to another. University transfer is the pathway from community college to a university to complete a bachelor’s degree.
Most South Mountain Community College students transfer to:
- An Arizona public or private university (to complete a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree)
- Another Maricopa Community College (to complete an Associate’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree)

The Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) is a block of general education courses that fulfills your lower-division (freshman and sophomore) requirements at any Arizona public university.
Think of the AGEC as your general education passport—once completed, it travels with you and helps you avoid taking the same classes twice.
Why the AGEC Matters:
- It guarantees that your general education courses will transfer
- It saves you time by completing requirements before you transfer
- It saves you money by letting you take lower-cost community college classes
- It reduces the chance of repeating courses at the university
- It provides guaranteed admission to ASU, NAU, or U of A with a 2.5 GPA
