Latinos in Phoenix, 1870-1980, Come Share Your Stories!
Join the City of Phoenix and WestLand Engineering & Environmental Resources to talk about a project documenting the history of Latinos in Phoenix (1870-1980) and the properties associated with that history. Community members are encouraged to share their memories and experiences, photographs, family manuscripts, documents, oral histories or other media, and apprise WestLand and the city, about properties, people, events and traditions that they deem important in understanding the history of their community. All are encouraged to come and participate. This meeting is being hosted by Dr. Summer Cherland, History faculty at South Mountain Community College, who advises the student led South Mountain Oral History Project.
Partnering with the city and WestLand is Arizona Barrio Stories, a digital and social media platform for the Chicano/Latino communities whose mission is “to educate, inform, and empower the public; promote community wellbeing; deliver original content; and advocate for and preserve our history and collective knowledge for all generations…through storytelling.”
All are encouraged to reach out to Helana Ruter [email protected] or Jennifer Levstik [email protected] with questions, comments or concerns.
