SMCC's Computer Information Systems faculty member, Niall McCarthy, co-authored an article recently published in the "Community College Journal of Research and Practice". The article, titled “I Thought It Was a Little Risky: Transfer Barriers for Students with Scholarship Support," illuminates the difficulties and proposed solutions for SMCC students who transfer to a University to complete a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field.

Students interviewed for this article highlighted the importance of in-person connections, mentoring, and advising, all of which are tenets of SMCC'S STEM Train program. Faculty support is provided by a host of faculty every semester, including this semester's cohort:

  • Residential Faculty: Stephen Hustedde, Carl Whitesel, Travis Steel, and Komal Chhibber
  • Adjunct Faculty: Sean Yavelak and Bradley Thayer
