The Alpha Eta Delta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at South Mountain Community College was recently recognized as a Five-Star Chapter. This status represents the highest level of chapter performance within PTK.
PTK awards Five-Star Chapter status annually through its Chapter Development Program and chapters must re-earn their status each year. The status is evaluated based on each year’s activities and the requirements met through a structured framework: Reach, Engage, Network, Lead and Discover.
SMCC PTK met these requirements through its membership growth strategy by adding a total of about 60 members as well as its participation in PTK Edge, which included members and advisors engaging in courses and leadership development opportunities.
The chapter also took part in regional events such as ARC (Arizona Region Convention) and completed projects with high-level work, competitive submissions and institutional collaborations. A significant highlight that contributed to the Five-Star Chapter status was SMCC PTK’s Honors in Action Project, “Power of Stories”, which was an event hosted last Spring where students shared powerful personal stories reflecting on their journeys of growth.
This distinction reflects the collective effort, engagement and commitment of SMCC students and advisors to academic excellence, leadership development and meaningful community impact.
“This positions SMCC as a high-functioning, student-centered college which demonstrates scalable student success models and aligns directly with our ongoing effort to shift perception,” said Dr. L. Andrea Brownlee, SMCC PTK advisor.
