South Mountain Community College students are invited to submit up to four works of art to be considered for inclusion in the inaugural art exhibit. The exhibit will be hosted and juried by the SMCC Art Club and will take place on October 15 through December 16 in the Student Enrollment Services Building.
This exhibit is open to all currently enrolled SMCC students and is not limited to just students enrolled in an art class. Submission does not guarantee selection as selection of artwork could be based on, but not limited to, technical skill, composition, fit for campus community, weight, size and originality of content.
Students can submit artwork here. Submissions are due on September 14 and selected exhibitors will be notified via their Maricopa student email in early October. All art pieces must fit the gallery wall space and must be ready to be hung on the wall.
This exhibit is an opportunity to involve the entire SMCC community in a creative showcase of students' talents and skills while coming together for the shared interest of visual arts. Art Club students will gain knowledge in learning how to plan and execute an exhibit, while student artists will gain experience in showcasing in a professional gallery.
“Participating in a campus activity or organization can build employable skills and help with student retention,” said Dr. Nicole Wetzel, SMCC Student Services Director. “SMCC Art Club members get curatorial experience and student artists can build their curriculum vitae.”
