At Convocation this year we asked for your ideas on who to feature in the Good Stories Newsletter. Below are some of the stories we received. A big thank you to the recommenders and to those of you being recognized for your service to the college and the community!
Emily Ollarsaba: “When I was going to graduate in 2023, I was really bummed because I couldn’t attend because I had to work, and my family was not able to attend it at the time. So, I had decided not to walk at all at Commencement. But Emily heard about it and she pushed me to attend both Commencement and the Hispanic Convocation. She pushed me to do it, and I remember crying because as a first- generation student and the oldest daughter, I am expected to figure everything out by myself. It was refreshing to have someone guide me and help me make my graduation such a milestone in my life.” - Anonymous
The Counseling and BHS Team: “For their kindness and collaboration during my brother’s illness and passing.” - Anonymous
Shelly Slightom: “Shelly lifts up the attitude and professionalism of our advising team with her pragmatism and big picture thinking. A quiet leader, always caring, and putting students first. One of the best problem-solvers; for example – students who show up as walk-ins often ask, “Can I please see Shelly?” - Anonymous
The Fiscal Team: “The Fiscal Team makes the college a better place every day. As a new employee who was learning the ins and outs of ordering, P.O.s, ProCard purchases and then travel, they went above and beyond to offer training, help answering questions and for always being so nice and open to help when needed.” - Anonymous
