The traditional ball brought the community together to honor the marines’ service and sacrifice while commemorating the milestone birthday with a ceremonial cake-cutting.
SMCC Police Sergeant Bonifacio Gonzalez was recently celebrated for his years of service in the Marine Corps at the 250th Marine Corps Birthday Ball held in Sun Lakes, Arizona. The birthday was on November 10, which marked the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps founding on November 10, 1775.

Gonzalez was a part of the Marine Corps from 1984-1990, where he completed four years of active service and two years of inactive service. During his years of service, he was stationed in Hawaii as a military police officer. While in the Marine Corps, he also held the rank of corporal.
After completing his four years of active service, Gonzalez moved to Arizona. He has been working in the Maricopa County Community College district for 12 and half years. He started at Mesa Community College and after being promoted to police sergeant in 2018, he moved to South Mountain Community College.
