South Mountain’s TRiO Program is one of many established by Congress to help low-income Americans enter college, graduate and participate more fully in America’s economic and social life.
While financial aid programs can provide funding to help students enter college, TRIO programs are designed to help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.
However, two-thirds of the students served by TRIO must come from families with certain income levels, as determined by these income guidelines.
SMCC’s TRIO Office oversees:
- STEP (Students Transfer with Educational Preparation), a program designed for current college students preparing to transfer to four-year universities
- Upward Bound, a program for high school students preparing for college
Links to more details about each of these programs are available on the right.
