What is BIT (Behavioral Intervention Team)?

The Behavioral Intervention Team or BIT, at South Mountain Community College, is made up of faculty and staff with experience working in counseling, disability resources, student success, student discipline, and college police/public safety. The team meets weekly to coordinate responses to student behavior and concerns received from students, faculty,  and staff. When a concern is raised about specific student behaviors, BIT takes action to follow up.

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for members of the college community
     
  • Gather, assess, and deploy interventions with individuals who demonstrate concerning or threatening
    behavior
     
  • Provide support and resources to the college community members who are concerned for another
    individual


*BIT utilizes an objective risk rubric to conduct risk assessment and implement 
interventions related to potential indicators of certain behaviors.

Report a Concern

All members of the college community are encouraged to report a concern related to disruptive behavior in the learning and work environments, including thoughts of suicide or other acts of self-harm, and threats of physical harm to others.
