At South Mountain Community College, the Office of Care and Conduct is committed to supporting students through life challenges that may impact their academic success. Whether you are experiencing financial hardship, personal difficulties, housing or food insecurity, transportation barriers, or other concerns, our office is here to help connect you with campus and community resources. Academic Advising

Our academic advisors are here to help you develop your academic and career goals. Your advisors plan and review degree requirements for your specific field of interest and discuss transfer options.

Tutoring Services

Found in the LRC, offering free in-person/online tutoring to enrolled South Mountain Students. The Learning Center tutors assist with Math, Biology, and a variety of other courses here at South Mountain. They offer help with concept review, exam prep, and lab reports.

Computer Commons

The Computer Commons at South Mountain Community College provides students with access to technology and a dedicated workspace to support their academic success. Students may use the Computer Commons to complete online coursework, access learning resources, conduct research, and stay connected with their classes in a reliable and supportive environment.

Disability Resources and Services

Contact Disability Services to discuss or change accommodations. For students, they provide testing accommodations, a note taker, classroom accommodations, alternative text, a sign language interpreter, and enlarged text.

Writing Center

The Writing Center is here to help South Mountain students with writing tutoring. Our tutors can assist you with writing essays, personal statements, Scholarship applications, and proofreading.

Loaner Device Program

Students who need access to technology for coursework may qualify for our loaner device program, which provides laptops and other equipment.

Financial Resources

Verna McClain Emergency Fund

South Mountain’s emergency fund is a one-time resource to help students with unexpected expenses of up to $ 500. 

Maricopa Community College Foundation

Maricopa Community Foundation is here to make secondary education more accessible. By applying to one general scholarship, you automatically get matched with hundreds of scholarships for students in the Maricopa Community Colleges district. 

Financial Aid Services

Our Financial Aid Office provides financial assistance to eligible students from federal, state, institutional, and private sources. We also provide families with information on where to find funding, how to apply, and advice on budgeting and finances. Financial assistance can come in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, or employment, and you may end up using more than one of these, depending upon the level of financial need and what you are eligible for.

Bus Pass Program

Discounted bus passes are available to students and employees. Passes can be requested in the Student Union and purchased at the SMCC Bookstore.

Student Accident Insurance Plan

This plan is provided without charge to all students of the Maricopa Community Colleges.  This is a secondary insurance plan only related to college-related accidents. Please note that if the student already has insurance, the accident must be submitted to their insurance company first. Click the link above for more information.

  • A claim for medical services must be completed and returned to the insurance company within 120 days of the injury or first date
    of illness.
  • Claim forms are available from the SMCC Student Enrollment Services (SES) office.
  • Complete the claimant’s portion of the form, present it to the doctor or hospital rendering service for diagnosis and itemized
    statement, and attach all itemized doctor and hospital bills.
